Madhya Pradesh, the Indian state, which is located in the centre of the country,
extensively represents the whole nation with its different aspects. Named after its location, which
literally means ‘Central Province,’ Madhya Pradesh is a state that is encircled by other states on all
sides. Ruled by major dynasties such as Mauryan, Sakas, Kushans, Satavahanas, Marathas, Chalukya and more,
this land has witnessed a rich historical diversification over the years. Spread across an area of 3,08,000
square kilometres, Madhya Pradesh, which is referred to as ‘The Heart of Incredible India,’ was founded on
November 1, 1956, and came to its present version on November 1, 2000, when Chhattisgarh was bifurcated from
it.
Madhya Pradesh Tourism has flourished over the years in several aspects with its
nature and its wildlife collection, culture, spirituality, heritage monuments and adventures. Though the
state lies on the plain regions, it is thrived by a number of rivers like Narmada, Tapti and hill ranges,
such as Vindhya and Satpura. The diversity in nature makes it an ideal home to a rich collection of wildlife
that takes shelter in several forests of the state, which occupy around 30 per cent of the land.
Speaking of pilgrimage tourism in Madhya Pradesh, Ujjain, which is one of the 12 jyotirlingas in India,
makes it renowned all over the world. Apart from all of these, no other place can take over the ranking of
heritage tourism in Madhya Pradesh which always attracts travellers from all over the world to explore
Khajuraho, Buddhist Monuments and other World Heritage Sites.
